Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Federation, President of the Russian Committee of Solidarity and Cooperation with the Peoples of Asia and Africa Iliyas Magomed-Salamovich Umakhanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Leonidovich Bogdanov, President of the Russian-Syrian Friendship and Cultural Relations Society Alexander Sergeevich Dzasokhov, President of the Diplomatic Academy of Russian Foreign Ministry Evgeny Petrovich Bazhanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Russian Federation Riyad Haddad, and expert community representatives took part in this meeting.
The meeting participants analyzed the reasons of insufficient support for the Syrian people’s struggle against international terrorism from the public circles of Western and other countries, as well as their attempts to interfere in Syria’s internal Affairs from outside.
According to Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Federation, President of the RCSCAA Ilyas-Magomed Salamovich Umakhanov, “today the brotherly people of Syria need political, moral and humanitarian support, including aid through public organizations. It is necessary to strengthen public support for the Syrian people, since the main burden of fighting against international terrorism and extremism lies heavy on their shoulders”.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Russian Federation Riyad Haddad stressed the great importance of the Russian support. It is crucial that Syria is not alone in its struggle against the aggression it has had to face; the support of other countries alleviates suffering of the Syrian people, he said.
At the meeting, Riyad Haddad was awarded with the medal of the Russian Committee of Solidarity and Cooperation with the peoples of Asia and Africa, which was presented to him by the President of the RCSSAA.
According to the draft Declaration in support of Syria, which was discussed by the meeting participants, the RCSCAA and the Russian-Syrian Friendship and Cultural Relations Society will step up their campaign of solidarity and support for the people of Syria in their struggle for freedom, and in order to help the country recover after the devastating war. The document states: “We hereby declare that we are creating an international public independent platform of solidarity to bring together all the interested parties and all those who feel the need to make a contribution and put an end to the destructive processes in the Middle East initiated by the United States and its allies”.
